someone once gave me a very good example of life.

In golfing terms, you need a certain no. of shots to put the ball in the hole. A par 4 hole means you need 4 strokes to put the ball in. If you take 1 extra,  it's call a bogey, if you take 2 extra, it's call a double bogey. If you take 1 less, it's call a birdie. If you take 2 shots less, it's call an eagle.

To get a birdie is a big deal for an amateur.

If a golfer gets a birdie for every shot, he will never appreciate how wonderful it is to get a birdie. But to a golfer who always gets a par or bogey, it is so wonderful to get a birdie. Life is about, bogeys, pars and birdies.

It has no meaning if you only know birdies.
